Abstract
The story of temperance and prohibition in both British Columbia and Washington has been well told. However, what has been less explored is how reform on one side of the border often mirrored reform on the other. While the casual (especially American) observer may see or cross the border without recognizing its significance, many academics too often see it as a definitive line and, in so doing, sometimes fail to note the important connections or to make the valuable comparative discoveries the border offers.
