Das Defizit im deutschen Warenhandel mit China ist seit Anfang 2020 stark gestiegen. Dabei spielen auch Preis- und Wechselkurseffekte eine Rolle. Obwohl die Erzeugerpreise in dieser Phase in Deutschland sehr viel stärker als in China gestiegen sind, hat der chinesische Yuan gegenüber dem Euro bis Mitte 2024 sogar leicht abgewertet, statt kräftig aufzuwerten. So kam es zu einer noch sehr viel stärkeren realen Abwertung des Yuan um über 25 Prozent. Die deutsche Politik sollte China daher mit Nachdruck dazu drängen, den Yuan gegenüber dem Euro deutlich aufzuwerten.
