Abstract
Tidal energy is the system that takes advantage of the movement of ocean water particles, both vertical displacement (tides) and horizontal displacement (tidal stream) to generate electricity due to the gravitational process of the Sun and Moon. Tidal energy in Spain tries to boost itself through the “Magallanes” project, the only one in the country, and located in Redondela (Galicia). The world´s largest tidal power plant, until 2012, generates 600.000.000 kWh per year. This plant is located in France and it is estimated that these energy levels account for more than 40% of the total energy in French Brittany. Tidal energy is a promising energy within the field of clean energy. However, there are still few countries that have great capacity to produce energy in this way: France, South Korea, Canada, United Kingdom and Norway. There´s still a long way to go. It is a technology that still needs more technological development to optimize the system.
