In this article, an attempt is made to describe and discuss the personal experiences, as well as the health perceptions and practices of Canadian-Portuguese elderly women living in the Ottawa region. The resultsindicate that, without exception, all these women had a rather difficult life trajectory however, after retirement, they recognize a positive increase in life satisfaction. Their perceptions of a healthy life style include diverse dimensions: it is physical, mental and spiritual. Finally, they also refer that a balanced nutrition, medical consultation, and physical/social activities are important health practices. Neste artigo, descreve-se e discute-se as experiências, percepções e práticas de saúde de mulheres idosas de origem luso-canadiana e estabelecidas na região de Ottawa. Os resultados obtidos indicam que, sem excepção, todas as entrevistadas tiveram um percurso de vida dificil. No entanto, chegadas à reforma, declaram-se mais satisfeitas com a vida. As suas percepções de um estilo de vida saudável incluem as dimensões físicas, mentais e espirituais. Por fim, referem igualmente que um regime alimentar equilibrado, as consultas ao médico e as actividades físicas e sociais constituem práticas de saúde fundamentais.
