Abstract
The NHL is being sued by the family of longtime defenceman Steve Montador. Montador was found dead in his Toronto home back in February- he was only 35. His family claims the league failed to provide Montador with up-to-date medical information about the risk of long-term brain damage. In his 10 NHL seasons, Montador had a long history of concussions- at least 12 that the family knew about, according to TSN. After his death, researchers confirmed Montador had CTE- a brain disease that's been linked to repeated head trauma. The suit against the league claims that the league 'induced him into continuing to play, and fight, in NHL games and practices,' despite knowing the risks of brain damage.
