Abstract
Two University of Regina alumni have created a 25-minute musical video tribute, based on hundreds of photos, letters, daily diaries and assorted memorabilia from their father’s kitbags, which had never been unpacked after he returned from the Second World War. He passed away in 1987. Earlier this year, Anna Marie Willey (Cert. PR ‘96) began the process of sorting the kitbags, which reminded her of “canvas time capsules.” They had been stored for almost 70 years after her father, John Winichuk, from Melville, Saskatchewan, returned home. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) from 1941 to 1946 and began his service overseas in 1943 as a member of the ground crew with RCAF’s 427 Squadron based in Leeming, England. Prior to his time overseas, he trained in Brandon and Saskatoon.
