Abstract
RÉSUMÉ: Introduction : La transformation du système de santé modifie le rôle des professionnels, dont celui des infirmières. Or, il est reconnu que les études universitaires transmettent les bases théoriques et pratiques nécessaires pour permettre à l’infirmière de développer un processus de réflexion critique tout en constituant une condition essentielle à l’avancement de la profession et à l’optimisation des soins pour les patients. Les infirmières québécoises qui poursuivent des études universitaires dans le cadre d’un cursus DEC-BAC intégré en sciences infirmières changent de titre, ce qui peut engendrer pour elles une transition lors de laquelle l’« infirmière » devient « infirmière bachelière ». But : Cette étude qualitative propose de décrire les facteurs qui influencent la poursuite d’études au baccalauréat (DEC-BAC) en sciences infirmières dans une région rurale éloignée (RRÉ) au Québec. Cadre de référence : Le cadre conceptuel utilisé repose sur la théorie de la transition de Meleis (2010). Méthode : Dix étudiantes infirmières au cursus intégré DEC-BAC en sciences infirmières sur un site de formation hors campus d’une université québécoise ont participé à un entretien individuel semi-structuré afin de décrire les facteurs facilitant et limitant la poursuite de leurs études. Une analyse thématique des données recueillies a par la suite été réalisée selon la démarche de Paillé et Muchielli (2016). Résultats : Les résultats de l’étude mettent en lumière 14 facteurs professionnels, personnels et liés à la formation universitaire influençant la poursuite du baccalauréat (DEC-BAC) en sciences infirmières en RRÉ, soit 8 facteurs facilitants et 6 facteurs limitants. Discussion : Par la description des facteurs qui influencent la poursuite du baccalauréat (DEC-BAC) en sciences infirmières, cette étude encourage l’élaboration de stratégies afin de favoriser et faciliter la formation universitaire des infirmières en RRÉ. However, it is recognized that the baccalaureate studies transmit the theoretical and practical background necessary to enable the nurse to develop a process of critical reflection while constituting an essential condition for the advancement of the profession and the optimization of care for patients. Quebec nurses who pursue university studies as part of an integrated DEC-BAC program in nursing change their title, which can beget a transition for them during which the « nurse » becomes « baccalaureate nurse ». Purpose : This qualitative study aims to describe the factors influencing the pursuit of undergraduate studies (DEC-BAC) in nursing in a remote rural area (RRA) of Quebec. Theoretical framework : The conceptual framework for this study is based on the Meleis’s Transition Theory (2010). Method : Ten nursing students in the integrated nursing program (DEC-BAC) on an off-campus site of a Quebec University participated in a semi-structured individual interview aimed to describe the factors facilitating and limiting the pursuit of their studies. A thematic analysis of the data collected was carried out according to the approach of Paillé and Muchielli (2016). Results : The results of the study highlighted 14 professionals, personals, and university factors influencing the pursuit of a baccalaureate (DEC-BAC) in nursing in RRA, that is 8 facilitating factors and 6 limiting factors. Discussion : By describing the factors influencing the pursuit of a baccalaureate in nursing (DEC-BAC), this study not only encourages the strategies to promote and facilitate the university training of nurses in RRA.
