Impact des hybrides transgéniques de maïs sur l'entomofaune d'agroécosystèmes du Québec

Abstract
Le maïs Bt, une forme transgénique du maïs exprimant une toxine du Bacillus thuringiensis, a été rapidement adopté par les producteurs québécois malgré plusieurs interrogations quant à son utilité réelle et ses impacts environnementaux. Des essais réalisés en 2003 et 2004 sur deux sites agricoles ont montré ici peu de différences de rendement entre les cultivars Bt et conventionnels. Des échantillonnages au champ ont aussi permis de calculer un indice de biodiversité de l'entomofaune similaire, peu importe les lignées testées. En particulier, les lignées transgéniques n'ont montré aucun impact sur les populations de coccinelles et de pucerons, alors que des différences étaient observées d'une lignée conventionnelle à l'autre. Des expériences en serre sur la performance biologique du puceron modèle Rhopalosiphum padi ont confirmé les données de terrain. Une étude protéomique comparant le taux de divergence métabolique inter-hybrides a montré des différences marquées entre les hybrides conventionnels, comparées à de faibles taux de divergence entre les hybrides conventionnels et leurs contreparties transgéniques. En somme, ces résultats suggèrent un impact négligeable des hybrides transgéniques sur la biodiversité des insectes dans les cultures de maïs au Québec, expliqué en partie par une forte ressemblance de ces hybrides avec leur lignée mère.
