Abstract
Dès le début du XIXe siècle, le Séminaire de Québec avait entrepris de se constituer une collection de monnaies qui devait servir de complément à l'enseignement livresque des humanités. En 1865, le leg du musée numismatique de Charles P. Frémont, spécialisé dans les monnaies des empereurs romains, donna naissance à la collection de monnaies antiques du Séminaire de Québec. Et, durant un peu plus d'un siècle, son développement fut lié à l'évolution de cette institution. Le Musée du Séminaire de Québec, devenu une corporation privée en 1983, possède aujourd'hui une collection de 314 pièces antiques, en majorité d'époque gréco-romaine, formée à partir de dons et de legs.
