Abstract
Gedurende een lange periode had de Katholieke Kerk een dominante positie in Québec. Tijdens de stille revolutie in Québec van 1960 tot 1966 verandert dit in een hoog tempo. De Katholieke Kerk verliest onder andere haar monopolie over het Franstalige onderwijs, voortaan heeft de overheid het hier voor het zeggen. Het merkwaardige is dat hoewel de katholieke kerk veel macht heeft verloren, er geen conflict is uitgebroken tussen de kerk en de staat. In mijn scriptie vertel ik hoe we de vreedzame reactie van de katholieke kerk kunnen uitleggen als het gaat om de hervorming van het onderwijs. Dit heeft te maken met de modernisering van de katholieke kerk in het kader van het tweede Vaticaanse concilie, maar ook met de coöperatieve houding van de overheid en met de zich snel moderniserende samenleving in Québec.
