Abstract
En mars 1762, le gouverneur des Trois-Rivières, Ralph Burton, procède au dénombrement des familles qui n'avaient pas été recensées 18 mois plus tôt soit par omission ou par absence au moment du recensement d'octobre 1760. Deux cents familles, représentant 776 personnes, ont été dénombrées ; on les a appelés les « Nouveaux Habitants ». Plusieurs facteurs ayant causé leur déplacement sont liés à la guerre de la Conquête. En effet, le conflit a généré plusieurs formes de mobilité dans la population coloniale. D'autres facteurs sont davantage liés aux pratiques familiales qui étaient courantes dans la colonie, associées au mariage et à l'établissement. Le présent mémoire vise à identifier ces nouveaux habitants, à comprendre les circonstances de leur présence dans le recensement de 1762 et à évaluer leur apport démographique à la population du gouvernement des Trois-Rivières.
