Abstract
Depuis plusieurs années, les mouvements séparatistes en Europe ont développé un discours faisant appels à des arguments objectifs pour justifier l’indépendance de leur région. Même si ces discours se déclinent selon des modalités différentes selon les contextes (Ecosse, Catalogne, Flandre, Italie du Nord, Québec et même Brexit), il est possible d’établir une typologie des arguments utilisés en distinguant ceux d’ordre économiques, démocratiques et relatifs à la bonne gouvernance. Le but de ces arguments est de convaincre les citoyens que l’indépendance est objectivement désirable, au-delà du sentiment d’appartenance identitaire. Cependant, une analyse plus fine et critique permet d’avancer que, loin d’être dépassé, le facteur identitaire reste un élément central et fondamental sur lequel se greffe ces discours présentés comme objectifs. Partant, ces derniers constituent bien souvent une ruse consistant à camoufler l’argument identitaire tout en espérant rallier les indécis à l’option séparatiste.
