Abstract
Upper Volta is situated in the center of West Africa, lying mainly in the Sudan climatic zone with most of Country having an annual rainfall of between 500-1000 millimeters. The southern quarter of the country is in the northern Guinea zone while the northern fifth is in the Sahel. Landlocked, with a very limited road system, a relatively arid climate, limited natural resources and few industries, the country faces many problems and is heavily dependent on agriculture am livestock for its welfare.
