Abstract
Durant la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, plusieurs centaines d'ouvriers et d'artisans du Québec réalisent des meubles pour les différentes couches de la société québécoise. Parmi eux, certains se distinguent par une production de haute qualité, empreinte des courants européens et américains. Cette même production aura un écho dans les expositions provinciales, internationales et universelles. Les expositions provinciales témoignent, d'une façon toute particulière, des valeurs formelles, esthétiques et sociales associées aux «meublesd'exception» québécois. Elles mettent aussi en évidence la production des ébénistes-sculpteurs parmi les meilleurs au Québec. L'intérêt pour le mobilier québécois est toutefois plus ténu dans les expositions internationales et universelles.
