Abstract
"En la década de los noventa, unaimportante reingeniería de las políticassociales ha tenido lugar en Canadá. Losautores presentan las principalescaracterísticas de estos cambios, paraluego analizar la naturaleza de lasorganizaciones de la economía social ysu potencial para mejorar lacontribución de las políticas sociales ala salud y bienestar de la población. Enla última parte del artículo, se analiza lacontribución específica de lasorganizaciones de la economía socialen la prestación de servicios socialesen cuatro areas: la integración laboral,las guarderías, la vivienda social y losservicios a domicilio. Se concluye quela economía social, por su gran potencialde democratización, puede desarrollaralianzas con el sector público paramejorar la eficacia de las políticaspúblicas y contrarrestar las tendenciashacia la mercantilización y lafamiliarización de los servicios sociales."
