Abstract
This article is a critique of some approaches that try to explain the growth and strengthening of the FARC in the past two decades, as a product of "forced recruitment" and its links to the drug trade. Contrary to this, we look for alternative explanations delving into the world of human subjectivities, recovering the voices of those being involved in the conflict in the last quarter century, their stories usually do not appear in the analysis of it. The text is the first step of a larger research that seeks to scrutinize the reasons that have led to individuals, mostly from the popular sectors, to join a politicalmilitary project, such as the FARC, from biographical accounts of some activists (men) deprived of freedom in Colombian jails.
