La toute première réunion des commissaires africains en charge du foncier a débuté ce lundi à Accra. À cette occasion, le Ministre ghanéen en charge des terres et des ressources naturelles, John-Peter Amewu, s’est lamenté des niveaux extrêmes de pauvreté dans certaines parties du continent malgré les vastes ressources en terres arables disponibles. Dans son discours d’ouverture de la réunion qui a pour thème « Garantir les droits fonciers des communautés » et où participaient les commissaires, de hauts fonctionnaires du gouvernement, des représentants de la société civile et d’autres acteurs, le ministre décrit la situation comme alarmante. À la fin de l’atelier, les organisateurs espèrent avoir une masse critique de commissions sur le foncier habilitées pour diriger les réformes foncières en Afrique ; articuler et accepter les principaux défis, les opportunités et un programme régional pour garantir les droits fonciers des communautés locales, des femmes et des peuples autochtones.
