Cette étude est consacrée aux représentations linguistiques autour de la variété de français parlée en Alberta (Canada), au prisme de la notion d’“attitude énonciative”. L’objectif est, plus précisément, d’analyser un texte de la dramaturge et artiste franco-albertaine Joëlle Préfontaine, intitulé Lettre non lue, paru dans la revue Lettres québécoises n° 181 (2021). Nous essayerons d’observer comment les marqueurs lexicaux et grammaticaux relevés dans le texte fonctionnent comme des indices de l’attitude locutoire ou expressive de l’artiste albertaine. L’hypothèse formulée est que ces indices, inscrits dans une scénographie épistolaire choisie pour servir d’appui à la réflexion spéculative sur la langue, seraient à même de déconstruire l’idéologie de l’unilinguisme dont font généralement l’objet les variétés “minoritaires” de français en Amérique du Nord, notamment à l’Ouest des Grands Lacs.
