Abstract
Chaque année au Québec, il y a environ 137 personnes âgées qui se suicident. Bien que de nombreuses études soient en mesure de nous informer sur les facteurs de risque de ces personnes âgées, nous disposons de très peu d’information nous permettant de comprendre ce qui les amène à penser au suicide et sur les moyens d’intervention efficaces à la portée des psychologues. Dans cet essai théorique, nous tentons de mieux comprendre ce qui amène une personne âgée à penser au suicide en croisant les théories sur l’âgisme avec deux théories sur le suicide ainsi qu’un corpus de recherche qualitative traitant de l’expérience des personnes âgées qui ont songé au suicide, de leurs proches et des intervenants qui les côtoient.
