Abstract
In this paper, a new system for surface water monitoring \nis presented. The main concept of the design is a device \ncapable of warning the Guelph water treatment facility of possible \nsurface water contamination events in real-time. The design consists \nof a buoy equipped with a sensor array designed to detect \nindicating factors of water contamination. It is capable of warning \nGuelph water treatment facility of possible dangers to the \nlocal drinking water supply immediately by SMS text message. \nThe analysis of the final design shows that it will be effective in its \nintended purpose.
