Abstract
Speech! is a script for a single actor delivered live before an audience. It explores the language of symbolic oratory by fusing highly stylised forms of address - political speeches, apologies, ceremonial toasts – into a single form. Speech! was first performed by Colleen Wheeler in a solo exhibition at Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver 2022. It was performed weekly over a six-week period. Speech! was performed 3x week by Rory Kinnear in a solo exhibition at greengrassi London, 2023. It was performed once at Convent of St. Agnes, Prague as part of Ora et lege II at National Gallery Prague, 2024. Speech! is part of a series of three performance works entitled Speech! Fight! Smile! Speech! was later developed into Rant (2025), a series of large-scale public print works.
