Abstract
This vessel was built in 1864 at Liverpool, England under the name of "Let-Her-Be." She was built as a blockade runner for the Confederate States of America under the name "Chicora" but arrived too late and was sold to Canadian parties for service in the upper lakes and on Lake Ontario. She was cut in two to pass the locks of the St. Lawrence River and rebuilt in 1868 at Buffalo, New York, as a passenger vessel. This photo was from the early days, as the pilot house projects from above the upper deck. She carried British troops in 1870 during the Northwest Rebellion. She sank at dock in Toronto on Oct. 27, 1919 but was raised and rebuilt as a barge and renamed "Warrenko," carrying coal on Lake Ontario. On Sept. 19, 1938 she collided with "Sprucebay" in Kingston, Ont. and sank, then was raised and pulled onto Howe Island, Ont. She was later cut up for scrap.
