Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Desta forma, fundamenta- -se uma atitude de proposta de projeto sobre o bairro, procurando uma valorização do mesmo, bem como para a forma como este se pode relacionar com o seu contexto, provocando uma reflexão acerca da sua existência e demostrando a possibilidade da sua permanência; - ABSTRACT: Meia Praia Apeadeiro neighborhood: from vernacular architectures, to SAAL process memories - a proposal for rehabilitation - Approximately thirty years before the April 1974 revolution, a population arrived in Meia Praia, in the municipality of Lagos, looking for work living off the sea better living conditions than those they had in the place where they came from, Monte Gordo. The thatched huts they built on the dunes, characteristic of other fishing settlements on the Algarve coast, gave them the nickname of Indians by the population of Lagos. In 1974, with the creation of a housing program, the Serviço de Apoio Ambulatório Local – SAAL (Local Ambulatory Support Service), masonry houses were built, with the participation of the population in this process, giving rise to the Bairro SAAL Meia Praia - Apeadeiro. Almost fifty years later, the inhabitants of this place still await for the project to be completed, and they are waiting for the process to be regularized, and until today, ownership of the land to the inhabitants has not yet taken place. The 2007 Meia Praia Urbanization Plan provides for the deactivation of this settlement, as a result of its proximity to the sea and the dune, with the aim of re-naturalizing the area it now occupies. Something that contrasts with the fact that in the eastern edge of the place a significant area of nearby dunes was moved to create a golf course. The objective of this dissertation is the elaboration of a rehabilitation proposal that promotes an integration of this community with its surrounding landscape, considering its non-deactivation. It was necessary to study the framework for the scenarios that encompass the object, analyzing the people and the place, in contexts of the occupations of fishing communities on open beaches, the territory of Meia Praia and the role of Architect José Veloso within the scope of this SAAL operation, where he was close to the population. In this way, an attitude of project proposal is based on the “community”, looking for an appreciation of it, as well as for the way in which it can relate to its context, provoking a reflection about its existence and demonstrating the possibility of its permanence.
