Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Given the trend of contemporary cinema to return to the 1980s, and the emergence of the retro as a
\ngenre in pop culture, this article observes Turbo Kid (2015) as a nostalgic, retrofuturist tribute to the
\naction and adventure films of that decade. The co-production of Canada / New Zealand emerges as an
\nimportant exemplar of what we define as “retro cinema,” as it turns to a specific moment in the history
\nof cinematographic genres. Created on the basis of previous productions, Turbo Kid refers us to a past
\ncinematic multiverse. The aesthetics and themes of the pop culture of the ‘80s are manifested in the
\nvisual and the plot of this film, which remains true to that decade visually and thematically. At the same
\ntime, it updates narrative strategies and transforms the past into an actual contemporary experience.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
