Les @infections du site opératoire (ISO) représentent une part importante de la mobidité et de la mortalité hospitalière. Elles sont associées à un surcoût humain et financier, car elles sont souvent responsables d'une prolongation d'hospitalisation, d'environ sept jours en moyenne. Concernant l'arthroplastie totale de hanche, l'incidence des ISO a diminué de 1,15% à 0,33% entre 1999 et 2005 (p=0,03). Cette thèse consiste à mettre en avant les mesures de prévention et de surveillance des infections du site opératoire indispensables pour une diminution de ce type d'infection après arthroplastie totale de hanche. Sont abordés les axes de prévention des riques émanant du patient, de l'environnement et du personnel. Une autre partie est consacrée à la surveillance mise en oeuvre pour suivre l'évolution de ces infections et aux résultats nationaux, régionaux et au sein de l'hôpital de Laval en Mayenne.
