Abstract
Ce mémoire de maîtrise porte sur l'art actuel chez les artistes autochtones au Québec, et la façon dont on peut relier une forme d'expression plastique aux processus de revalorisation identitaire. Pour certains artistes, l'installation, forme artistique du 21e siècle devient véritablement une pratique identitaire au-delà de la pratique artistique, tout en étant pleinement ancrée dans le champ de l'art actuel. En éclairant d'un jour nouveau les questions de territoire, de guérison sociale et des savoirs dits traditionnels, ces oeuvres participent au processus de revitalisation culturelle et de réaffirmation identitaire. Elles représentent ainsi un angle de vue particulièrement intéressant sur un contexte historique politique et social, en impliquant l'artiste, sa communauté, ainsi que la société québécoise dans son ensemble. À plus large mesure, elles touchent aussi une identité panamérindienne qui s'affirme de plus en plus dans un contexte de globalisation où les identités minoritaires luttent contre une assimilation aux valeurs occidentales.
