Abstract
La hipòtesi de treball d’aquest article defensa que La Llumanera de Nova York –publicació catalana editada a Nova York en l’últim quart del segle XIX– va servir com a instrument de cohesió que va enfortir la identitat dels emigrants catalans distribuïts de manera desigual al llarg de tot el continent americà. La Llumanera de Nova York contribuí a la promoció de la cultura catalana i actuà com a corretja de transmissió de notícies entre Amèrica i Catalunya.
