Denna uppsats syftar till att presentera samtida metoder för medborgardeltagande i planering och till att utvärdera de metoder Malmö Stad använder utifrån dessa. Undersökningen utförs med en blandad kvalitativ metod med litteraturundersökning och intervju med en professionell i Malmö Stad. Analysen understöds av teori om deltagandestegen och av teori om demokratisk planering. Metoder som identifieras inkluderar co-planing, medborgarbudget, idéseminarier och placemaking. Malmö Stad använder i sin tur behovskartläggning, områdesanalys, medborgardialog av olika slag och malmöinitiativet, dessa överlappar till viss del med de metoder som framkommit i litteraturstudien. Reflektioner om ökat medborgardeltagande och fortsatt vidare forskning görs i den avslutande diskussionen.
