Abstract
L'obtention de nouvelles données d'intensité du champ magnétique, à partir d'échantillons de dykes canadiens d'âge compris entre 1000 et 2400 Ma, ont permis, pour cette période, de doubler la base de données existante et d'indiquer un champ de faible intensité. Analysés dans le cadre de la base de données totale de paléointensité, ces résultats suggèrent une évolution de l'intensité du dipôle géomagnétique au cours du temps. Les résultats paléomagnétiques et isotopiques montrent que, pendant la glaciation marinoenne vers ca. 600 Ma, des dépôts glaciaires de Chine du Sud s'étaient formés à une paléolatitude équatoriale comme ceux d'Australie. Ils rnforcent ainsi l'hypothèse de l'existence de glaciations globales pendant lesquelles la Terre est totalement englacée. La combinaison d'études isotopiques et paléomagnétiques s'est révélée être un outil original et puissant tant pour les corrélations stratigraphiques que pour la caractérisation de réaimantations
