Abstract
This M.S. Environmental Studies portfolio combines two academic and technical reports and one work product from a summer internship. The first piece discusses in detail the selenium pollution crisis in the Elk River watershed and the updated canadian coal mining effluent regulations proposed for the area, including implications for the ongoing transboundary pollution problem in the Kootenai Watershed. The second piece examines issues of liability law and cleanup policy for abandoned hardrock mines on western public lands. The third piece reflects on my experience as a summer intern for Trout Unlimited's Clark Fork Restoration Coordinator and sampling and analysis plan for the Ninemile Placer Mine Restoration and Floodplain Reconnection Project produced as part of my work.
