Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin, millaisia romanttisia viestejä suomenkielisen populaarimusiikin sanoituksiin sisältyy. Työssä vertailtiin, onko viestejä enemmän juhannuksena, kuin muulloin vuodesta. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin koronavirustaudin pandemian vaikutusta viestien määrään. Aineisto tutkimukseen koostui suomenkielisistä lauluista kolmelta eri viikolta joka vuodelta, vuosina 2015−2021. Tutkimus yhdisti sekä laadullista aineiston analyysia, että määrällistä tulosten tarkastelua. Laulujen sanoitukset analysoitiin lukemalla, mutta vaihtelua viestien määrässä tarkasteltiin varianssianalyysillä. Aineistossa oli yhteensä 233 suomenkielisiä sanoituksia sisältäviä kappaleita. Romanttisia viestejä löytyi yhteensä 1910. Romanttisia viestejä sisältyi 95,25 % aineistosta. Kategorisoidessa sanoituksia huomattiin puute alkuperäisessä kategorisoinnissa, joka perustuu tutkimukseen vuodelta 2011. Kategoriat järjestettiin ja yhdistettiin uudelleen, ja mukaan lisättiin puuttuva kategoria. Kategorioiden määrä muuttui alkuperäisestä 19:sta 13 kategoriaan. Tulkittaessa alkuperäisen kategorisoinnin avulla, romanttisia viestejä oli eniten kategorioissa C3 kosiskelu, C5 esileikki ja C16 torjuminen. Vähiten niitä sisältyi kategorioihin C1 sukuelimet, C7 seksuaalinen kyvykkyys sekä C19 muu. Uudessa kategorisoinnissa viestejä oli eniten kategorioissa K3 pitkäaikaiset suhteet ja sitoutuminen, K6 houkuttelu ja K10 torjuminen. Vähiten romanttisia viestejä ilmeni kategorioissa K7 loukkaus, K8 pettäminen ja K13 muu. Vuodet 2015−2019 muodostavat 70,99 % aineistosta, ja vuodet 2020−2021 loput 29,01 %. Aineiston koko oli 233 kappaletta, jotka kerättiin Suomen Virallinen Listan singlet listalta. Romanttisia viestejä löytyi yhteensä 1910. Joka vuonna romanttisia viestejä yli 200. Juhannus ei nostanut viestien määrää, kuten oletettiin. Myöskään koronaviruspandemialla ei ollut sellaista vaikutusta, joka olisi merkittävä.
