Abstract
De ce jour date, on peut le dire, îe projet de fonder une société de colonisation du lac Témiskaming.SOCIÉTÉ DE COLONISATION Dès le mois de septembre suivant (1884) le R. P. Paradis organisait une excursion à Témiskaming mais pour des causes qu'il serait inutile de relater ici, l'excursion fut remise au mois d'octobre.Sur ces entrefaites arrivèrent de Paris à Ottawa deux messieurs en cherche de terrains propres à la colonisation et chaudement recommandés par un ami sincère du Canada, M. Claudio Jannet.Accompagnés du R. P. Paradis, de M. Laperrière, de M. Armstrong et de plusieurs autres personnes, ces messieurs profitèrent de l'occasion qui se présentait, se rendirent au lac Témiskaming et en revinrent enchantés.Ce fut l'occasion d'un mouvement en avant dans 1 organisation de la Société.Une assemblée des principaux citoyens s'intéressant à cette œuvre fut convoquée au palais épiscopal d'Ottawa vers la mi-novembre et un rapport verbal fut fait par les expéditionnaires.Séance tenante, un comité compose du R. P. Gendreau, de MM.Laperrière, Chabot et du regretté M. Ennis, fut chargé de préparer les règlements et constitu- tions de la nouvelle Société.Ce comité se mit à l'œuvre sans retard, et bientôt dans une séance convoquée sous ie haut patronage de Nos Seigneurs les Evoques d'Ottawa et de Pontiac, il eut le plaisir de voir ses statuts adoptés sans une seule voix discordante.Bien plus, à cette même séance, 85 membres se firent inscrire dans la Société et donnèrent ainsi une approbation non douteuse et d'un grand poids à ces règlements et constitutions.Toujours sous le haut patronage des deux évoques intéressés, NN.SS. les Évoques d'Ottawa et de Pontiac, la société fut définitivement organisée, et le 12 décembre 1884, elle élut les officiers suivants : Président, le Rév.Père P.
