Abstract
Elektryfikacja linii kolejowych na terenie Polski rozpoczęła się od linii z Warszawy do Otwocka i z Warszawy do Pruszkowa w 1936 roku. Natomiast znaczny przyrost tras o trakcji elektrycznej nastąpił od 1946 roku, by w latach 90. XX wieku zaniechać tego procesu. Dopiero od kilku lat w Polsce zauważamy linie z nową siecią trakcyjną. Kiedyś jednak elektryczność powodowała odejście od ery parowozów i zmniejszenie ruchu pociągów spalinowych. Dziś mamy dostępnych wiele pojazdów o alternatywnych źródłach energii, jak wodorowe, akumulatorowe, hybrydowe i na gaz ziemny. Znaczenie elektryfikacji linii kolejowych przez dziesiątki lat zmieniło swoją rolę. Czy nadal jest na to zapotrzebowanie? Czy jest potrzebne i uzasadnione? W niniejszym referacie autor poszukuje odpowiedzi na te pytania.
