Abstract
Ce mémoire a pour but l’étude de l’adoption des enfants nés dans l’illégitimité dans la ville de Québec entre 1943 et 1964. Il s’attarde à analyser les moyens qui furent proposés par la Sauvegarde de l’enfance de Québec, société d’adoption confessionnelle, afin «d’endiguer» le fléau des naissances hors mariage. Ces moyens furent doubles puisque d’une part, la Sauvegarde de l’enfance se proposa d’entreprendre une réforme des mœurs pour contrer les relations sexuelles hors mariage et que d’autre part, elle se préoccupa de l’adoption des enfants nés hors mariage. Ce mémoire aborde les thèmes de l’illégitimité et de l’adoption tout en tentant de tracer un portrait des acteurs impliqués dans la pratique adoptive. Ceci permet de distinguer l’évolution des pratiques adoptives au Québec et de comprendre comment l’adoption, jadis mal connue et mal aimée, est devenue un moyen de «construction familiale» accepté de la société.
