Abstract
El propósito de esta comunicación es presentar sintéticamente el mapa de las teorías sobre la pobreza y su medición. Mientras que las aproximaciones basadas en ingresos o en necesidades básicas no despiertan mayor curiosidad como para profundizar la comprensión, la definición de la pobreza a partir de los derechos suele generar mayor extrañeza. Se argumenta que en la medición de la pobreza concurren cinco cuerpos teóricos. Dos de ellos parten de los recursos y proporcionan mediciones indirectas, como son la de ingreso y la de capacidades. Otros tres cuerpos teóricos parten del plano de las privaciones: Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas, Pobreza Relativa y Pobreza desde la Perspectiva de Derechos. Mientras que los umbrales los determinan los investigadores, en los dos últimos son establecidos por los miembros de la sociedad y los legisladores.
