L'examen de textes d'étudiants, laissant voir des difficultés d'organisation textuelle, suggère que les concepts de pertinence et d'arrimage référentiel, événementiel et énonciatif n'épuisent pas totalement tous les problèmes de cohérence qui émergent au niveau local. Il semble alors justifié de prendre en considération un quatrième niveau d'arrimage des énoncés, l'arrimage « informatif », pour expliquer certaines maladresses d'ordre textuel.

\nCette recherche porte donc sur les deux dimensions propres à la cohérence informative, soit la répartition de l'information, qui se manifeste par l'utilisation d'une structure syntaxique plutôt qu'une autre (phrase active ou passive, phrase neutre ou emphatique, complément de phrase en tête ou en fin de phrase, entre autres) selon le caractère ancien ou nouveau de l'information, et la hiérarchisation de l'information, qui s'exprime par l'alternance entre les structures syntaxiques juxtaposées (ou coordonnées) et subordonnées selon le statut d'idée principale ou secondaire des éléments d'information (Gagnon et Chamberland,2010:79).

\nL'analyse de 39 textes argumentatifs écrits en français par des étudiants universitaires québécois nous a permis de constater qu'un certain nombre de scripteurs semblaient posséder une maîtrise imparfaite des concepts de répartition et de hiérarchisation des informations : sur 39 textes analysés, 20 contenaient au moins une maladresse dans la gestion de la saillance des énoncés en fonction du statut des informations, parmi lesquels 13 présentaient au moins un défaut de cohérence dans la répartition des informations et 18 contenaient au moins un défaut dans la hiérarchisation des informations.

\nÀ la lumière de ces résultats, nous avons cru pertinent de suggérer quelques modèles d'exercices qui pourraient être faits en classe, avec le soutien de l'enseignant, dans le cadre d'un enseignement systématique des principes régissant la cohérence informative. Nous croyons qu'une telle approche permettrait de sensibiliser les élèves et les étudiants au rôle textuel que jouent les différentes structures syntaxiques.
