Abstract
Marjorie talks with filmmaker Paul Manly about his recent trip to El Salvador to observe the effects of mining on local communities. This coincided with an investor-state dispute in which a Canadian-Australian mining company is suing the government of El Salvador for refusing to issue a mining licence. The government has concerns that the project could contaminate the water source for two thirds of the population, but the company sees the licence refusal as lost potential profit. Paul explains the issue of investor-state disputes that are included in the increasing number of investor protection/free trade agreements that Canada has signed.
