Abstract
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held a news conference following his Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump. In regard to President Trump's desire to make Canada the 51st state of America, Prime Minister Carney repeated his assertion that Canada was "not for sale," which he also said during the meeting with Trump. He added, "I've been careful always to distinguish between wish and reality. I was clear there in the Oval Office, as I've been clear throughout on behalf of Canadians that this is never gonna happen." He also said the talks with Trump were "very constructive" and that his expectations for trade negotiations were modest, saying he did not expect "white smoke" to result from the meeting.
