Abstract
In robot design, the selection of the best alternative among various candidates, generated at the conceptual stage, is a challenging problem. The information available at the conceptual stage of a robot-design job cannot be used in raw form to rank the concepts for design criteria that are typically used in robotics. Traditionally, these rankings are provided by the design expert, based on her or his judgment.
