Abstract
Dans "L'appel de la race" (1922) de Lionel Groulx, la "francisation" est dans le roman le moyen de lutter à la fois contre l’anglicisation et contre la suprématie du français hexagonal afin d’affirmer une identité canadienne francophone, aujourd’hui le concept de francisation s’élargit jusqu’à devenir une praxis généralisée de gestion de l’altérité, en particulier dans les politiques de gestion des nouveaux arrivants. Cet article vise à mettre en relation ces deux sémantisations de franciser qui résument deux positionnements politiques et sociaux déterminant le rapport entre langues et cultures au Canada français.L'article analyse l’imaginaire linguistique de la francisation dans L’appel de la race et, plus précisément, le discours métalinguistique comme opératoire au développement de la thèse du roman. Après une réflexion socioterminologique sur le terme franciser, on étudiera le rapport du français québécois à l’anglais (rapport interlinguistique) ainsi qu’au français hexagonal (rapport intralinguistique).
