Recent concerns about food safety have \nbeen the most disruptive and costly events the \nCanadian beef industry has ever experienced. \nAt best, food safety scares reduce consumer \nconfidence in beef products. At worst, complete \nloss of beef market access occurs because \nof a food safety event. Either scenario, reduced \nconsumer confidence in beef safety or loss of \nmarket access, adds considerable stress to the \nCanadian beef industry as reduced consumer \ndemand causes lower beef and cattle prices. The research conducted for this study \nrevealed numerous strategies that the Canadian \nbeef industry could pursue to enhance product \ndemand.
