Abstract
The aim of this article is to provide an insight into what must have been the maritime trade \nrelations between Cartagena (as a shipping port for various products) and Valencia (the final \ndestination of the goods shipped) during the second quarter of the 16th century. Topics such as \nthe merchants who settled in both docks made these imports a reality, the types of vessels, the \nskippers who captained them and the goods that were unloaded at the Valencian port-beach \nof El Grao are dealt with. Analysis based on data extracted from the Peatge de Mar series, \nincluded in the Maestre Racional section of the Archive of the Kingdom of Valencia. It also includes the contribution of a mercantile network extended from Valencia to Alicante, Cartagena \nand Madrid in 1625-1630, based on Valencian judicial documentation, specifically mercantile \ncorrespondence (letters, letters of payment) between merchants from Valencia (Antonio Menet, \nFlemish), Alicante (Guillermo Paulin, English) and Madrid (Juan Álvarez Maldonado, Castilian).
