Ein funktionales Nervensystem erfordert die enge Interaktion zwischen Neuronen und Gliazellen. In dieser Arbeit werden genetische Ansätze zur Identifizierung von Genen beschrieben, die bei Verlust zu Defekten in der Entwicklung und Migration der peripheren Gliazellen führen. Die Migration und Differenzierung der peripheren Gliazellen wurde zunächst mit lichtmikroskopischen und elektronenmikroskopischen Auflösungen dokumentiert. Neben dem Versuch ein induzierbares Geninaktivierungssystem zu etablieren, wurde eine ãklassischeÒ EMS Mutagenese für das X-Chromosom durchgeführt. Allele des Notch Locus wurden isoliert, die zu einer abnormen Migration der peripheren Gliazellen führen. Die Gene tango und crooked neck (sowie mögliche Interaktionspartner), die auch für die korrekte Migration dieser Zellen benötigt werden, wurden auf molekularer Ebene weiter untersucht.
