Abstract

-- \nABSTRACT : The demand for senior officers to ensure maritime transport operations generates professional pressure on young officers who are starting their careers. This research aims to identify the effects of this pressure on the implementation and maintaining the safety management systems on board ships. The aspects of pressure, first boarding, professional development and recruitment strategies for senior officers adopted by armaments are the main topics studied. The underlying hypothesis of this research considers that this professional pressure has impacts on the maintenance of security and on the progression of officers. Regularly the human element is retained as the cause of a maritime accident. Yet this factor is rarely the only one responsible for this event. How can professional pressure play a role in these accidents? The methodology adopted includes, in addition to a literature review, the analysis of marine accident reports and interviews with officers working on board Canadian ships. This collection of information leads to the following observations: professional pressure takes many forms and has an equal effect on young officers. While the majority agree that these effects will have on their careers, they are more nuanced about the potential effects on safety on board ships. For respondents, it is a matter of personal pathway whereby the officer who is promoted quickly may or may not be ready for a higher position upon obtaining the advanced certificate. For some, their own advancement is more often influenced by peer support than by pressure itself. The conclusion of this research remains this diversity of potential impacts of the pressure felt by the officers and that of the effects observed on security. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Maritime transport, professional pressure, safety, ISM, Officers, Accidents, Human factor.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
