Abstract
As the CHA’s new English-language editor, I join the executive at a fascinating time. The current government's promotion of a very\nspecific narrative of Canadian history has renewed debate about the past, not only among scholars, but among politicians, the\nmedia, and the general public as well. The role of professional historians in scrutinizing the “uses and abuses” of history has seldom seemed more important. This was an overriding concern expressed by several participants at the CHA’s Annual Meeting in\nVictoria this past June – in papers, panels, and discussion generally. /
