Abstract
El comercio es una de las actividades urbanas más influyentes en la ordenación espacial y social de las ciudades. Como actividad claramente indisoluble al hecho urbano, ha tenido una gran capacidad para adaptarse a los cambios que las ciudades y la sociedad iban experimentando, por lo que se le puede otorgar a esta actividad un papel muy importante en la actual configuración de los espacios urbanos. Del mismo modo, se ha establecido una estrecha relación de dependencia entre el comercio y las ciudades o los territorios urbanizados, por ser éstos los que acogen y referencian en el espacio a la actividad comercial, configurando un sistema espacial de centralidades, nodos de atracción y áreas dependientes comercialmente. La tesis doctoral “El comercio como herramienta estructuradora del territorio. El caso de las ciudades alicantinas” realiza un análisis detallado de la evolución de la actividad comercial en los espacios urbanos a través de la relación territorio, comercio y sociedad en las ciudades alicantinas.
