Notre mémoire en étude du religieux contemporain pose une question eu égard à la hiérarchisation des droits dans un État laïque comme le Québec à savoir si deux droits fondamentaux comme l’égalité des sexes et la liberté religieuse s’opposent ou se complètent. Dans ce climat de peur d’une perte de droits acquis depuis cinquante ans par les femmes du Québec, climat entretenu par un certain groupe de femmes plus particulièrement et alimenté par les médias depuis la Commission Bouchard-Taylor, notre hypothèse est que l’égalité femme-homme et la liberté religieuse, loin de s’opposer, se complètent et sont protégées par nos chartes. Après avoir analysé les discours religieux féministes, réfléchi aux notions du phénomène d’affirmation identitaire à caractère religieux, regardé de près la signification de ce qu’est un accommodement raisonnable et circonscrit le concept de laïcité, nous croyons qu’il y a une manière d’établir chez-nous un encadrement favorisant le vivre-ensemble.
