El principal interès d’aquesta recerca és l’estudi del camp periodístic en el seu estat actual i els canvis produïts en les darreres dècades, tot i prenent com a material empíric principalment l’anàlisi de les opinions i raons dels professionals de la informació sobre el camp i l’anàlisi de l’estructura comunicativa. L’estudi està fonamentat en les teories de les principals escoles sobre comunicació i els mèdia per a aplicar-les a un context determinat, el País Valencià. La tria dels professionals s’ha realitzat en aquest context, i l’estudi de l’estructura recull les dades de la comunitat autònoma, d’Espanya i d’Europa per a comparar-les. \n\nEls dos eixos de la recerca pel que fa als fonaments metodològics són:\n1.\tL’aportació de la teoria del camp del sociòleg francès Pierre Bourdieu i la sociologia reflexiva per a comprendre les relacions objectives entre els agents i l’estructura comunicativa. \n2.\tL’aplicació de l’anàlisi argumental (Pragma-Dialectical Approach) per a conèixer les reflexions i opinions dels professionals de la informació sobre la qualitat del periodisme.
