Abstract
La justice ne demeure justice, écrit E. Lévinas, que dans une société où il n’y a pas de distinction entre proches et lointains, mais oil demeure aussi l’impossibilité de passer à côté du plus proche». Se trouvent ainsi explicüement posées, par E. Lévinas luimême, les conditions sociales d’une éthique dont trop de commentateurs ne retiennent que la notion de visage. Cet article se propose d’établir la place incontournable du tiers, c’est-à-dire de la société, dans la pensée lévinassienne. Pour ce faire, it défrnit ce que le philosophe entend par altérité et socialité. Il expose les liens qui unissent indissolublement éthique et justice, deux concepts qui n’en demeurerú pas moins distincts dans la phitosophie lévinassierrne.
