Este trabajo presenta los estudios analíticos y numéricos realizados para el diseño de un dispositivo metálico de disipación de energía para conexiones viga-columna. Este dispositivo fue concebido para ser utilizado en estructuras prefabricadas de hormigón armado y estructuras de acero de grandes luces de edificios industriales o residenciales. El disipador es compatible con el diseño tradicional de uniones secas articuladas de viga y columna y su objetivo es aumentar la capacidad de disipación de energía por medio de la deformación plástica de elementos metálicos. El trabajo revisa el estado del arte de la aplicación de disipadores de energía a estructuras prefabricadas de hormigón sometidas a excitaciones sísmicas, y reporta el estudio analítico del comportamiento mecánico del nudo viga-columna con el amortiguador metálico, el análisis numérico del comportamiento cíclico y del pandeo inelástico de la placa metálica del disipador, la formulación de una metodología de diseño con la aplicación práctica a una estructura prefabricada de hormigón sometida a carga sísmica, y finalmente, la validación experimental preliminar del desempeño del amortiguador metálico en un prototipo.
